About Chebeague Island Inn
One of the few remaining inns that once dotted the coast and played an important part in Maine summers, Chebeague Island Inn has been thoughtfully restored to recapture its classic beauty and special place in the island community. Originally built in the 1880s, the Chebeague Island Inn has been a landmark and destination for well over 100 years. We are two hours from Boston, 30 minutes from the Portland International Jetport. Getting to the Chebeague Island Inn is easy and yet once here you feel like you re a million miles away. Enjoy reading in the Great Room with its vast stone fireplace. Sip cocktails on our front porch. Amble the gardens. Play croquet. Play badminton. Enjoy access to a 9-hole course at the Great Chebeague Golf Club. Play tennis. Swim at the nearby sandy beach. Take leisurely walks. Borrow one of our L.L. Bean bicycles or fishing poles. Within walking distance is the historic Stone Wharf. Boaters can enjoy this newly improved facility with dock privileges and access to the Inn s private moorings. Come to the Inn for a day or a night and enjoy all that Chebeague Island has to offer.
Chebeague pron shuh-Beeg is one of Maine s most beautiful islands, home to generations of year-round and summer families. At 3 1 2 miles long and 1 1 2 miles wide, Chebeague is the largest island in Casco Bay. It s name means isle of many springs. Chebeague Island has a storied history of sailing, notably the stone sloopers, men who carried ballast for the sailing ships of 19th century America and later granite for many of the country s most spectacular buildings, including the Washington Monument. The many lovely Greek revival homes on the island were built by these sloopers. The Chebeague Island Inn is proud to be part of that tradition. Our history goes back well over a century to the Hillcrest, the first inn built on this site. We welcome you to join us and become part of it, too.
