As the third largest city in the Midwest, Indianapolis is an ideal place for business or leisure travel. Indianapolis is famous for its annual 500-mile race held each Memorial Day weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. There are plenty of things to do and see at the Speedway. Car buffs should head to the Speedway Museum to see some past winning cars. Lucas Oil Stadium is the home turf of the two times Superbowl Champion Indianapolis Colts. Basketball fans can take in the fast play of the Indiana Pacers at Conseco Fieldhouse, while baseball lovers will enjoy the Indianapolis Indians, AAA affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. In the heart of downtown is White River State Park; free to the public, White River Park is where you will find the Indianapolis Zoo and Gardens plus an IMAX Theater. Fort Benjamin Harrison State Park is a great place for hiking, biking and outdoor activities including horseback riding trails and horse rentals. If water-related recreation is more your pleasure, Eagle Creek Park is a superb spot; you will find boats to rent, fish to catch and beaches perfect for relaxation. Downtown Indianapolis is a thrill to explore. At the citys center is the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Monument. Whether you drive past or stop for the tour, the Scottish Rite Cathedral is well worth seeing. An architectural masterpiece, this is the largest Scottish Rite cathedral in the world, tours are free. Visit the Indiana Historical Society, the Indianapolis Museum of Art or the Childrens Museum. Situated on over 150 acres, the Museum of Art is a great place to view the art of people and of nature. The Childrens Museum is also a must see, if for no other reason than its sheer size, it contains a 43-foot tall blown glass sculpture, the largest such permanent exhibit in the world. Indianapolis offers numerous fine golf courses. For a unique experience, head to Brickyard Crossing. Part of the course is actually on Speedways infield.
