Come to the unique city of Tacoma, Washington which has been named as one of America's 30 best communities to live in. The city has a rich history dating back to when it was inhabited by Native Americans; since then American explorers have created a legacy of their own in Tacoma. Most recently the city has undergone an expansive renaissance. By investing heavily into its popular downtown district, the city has been turned into a very worthwhile and enjoyable travel destination.
Tacoma has worked hard to revitalize the city and truly create a commercial and cultural center. One example of this is the restoration of the historic Union Station. The cultural district downtown is the site of the Washington State History Museum, the Tacoma Art Museum and the Museum of Glass all of which have been fairly recent additions. One of the most unique attractions in Tacoma, the Chihuly Bridge of Glass, is also located in this neighborhood. This 500 foot long pedestrian bridge links downtown Tacoma with one of the cities waterfronts, The Thea Foss Waterway, and is a fantastic display of color and glass.
Tacoma is also a great destination for anyone who loves the outdoors. Mount Rainier National Park is an easy day trip from Tacoma and encompasses over 200,000 acres of tranquil scenery. Or stop by Northwest Trek Wildlife Park where you can explore 400 acres of free roaming area and see over 200 unique animals in their natural habitat. Also, the waterfront town of Gig Harbor features miles of shoreline for maritime recreational activities and a variety of festivals and cultural events every month.
Enjoy visiting Tacoma in the Pacific Northwest. Often overlooked by the nearby metropolitan cities of Seattle and Portland, Tacoma has a very nice niche tucked away in Washington that's well worth the visit. |
